Q. How does the UMCOC financial support system work?
A. In case of a UMCOC member death, UMCOC will inform to all the members through email or other social media contacts about Salatul Janazah (funeral prayer) location, date, and time. UMCOC will pay all funeral related expenses up to CAD8,000 directly to services providers against invoices. The family may choose funeral service provider directly or through UMCOC.

Q. Who can become a member of UMCOC?
A. Any Muslim who is a Canadian Citizen, or a Landed Immigrants holding a Permanent Resident Card, or an International Student, or has a Refugee status and has legal family members residing anywhere in Canada, can join UMCOC.

Q. How one can become a member of UMCOC?
A. UMCOC will provide financial support as follows:

1. Fill out all necessary information on the application Form “A” and Form “B” and send to info@umcoc.com or mail to address 469 Hensall Circle, Suite #9, Mississauga, Ontario, L5A 3P4.
2. UMCOC will send an acknowledgement of application receipt after receiving Form “A” and Form “B” within 3-5 days and a confirmation of membership after membership reached to minimum 200.
3. One-time membership fee may be paid by one of these 2 methods: (a) Void cheque or Pre-authorized Payment Plan Agreement (b) E-transfer to payment@umcoc.com. Do not pay till application approval is notified.
4. In addition to one-time membership fee, applicant will have to pay a re-imbursement share upon the incident of death among the UMCOC membership community. The reimbursement share will be calculated based on the amount paid out to a deceased member’s family divided among the total number of applicants/members. For the Reimbursement Share payment deductions, a PRE-AUTHORIZED PAYMENT PLAN AGREEMENT must be signed and sent after receiving confirmation of membership approval from UMCOC.

Q. What are the benefits a member will get?
A. UMCOC will provide financial support as follows: 1. Funeral Support Assistance every deceased member will be entitled for funeral expenses up to CAD$8,000 and UMCOC will pay directly to services providers against invoices for every deceased for funeral services including release of body, Ghusl (bath), coffin (box), Kafan (shroud), preparation for burial, transportation to graveyard and full burial process. 2. After Death Assistance (optional): In case, any head of family (earning male or female member) pass on, eligible families will be assisted through federal, provincial, regional support system or optional donation collected from UMCOC members and affiliated food banks etc.
Q. What is the fee to become a member?
A. One-time Registration and Membership fee (non-refundable) as follow (which may be paid in FULL or 2 installments):

Registration fee per family / application: CAD30
Membership fee Principal applicant: CAD150
Spouse: CAD100
Dependent(s) up to 25 years age: CAD25 each
Dependent(s) above 25 years age: CAD50 each
Q. Is there any monthly payment?
A. NO monthly payment. In any given month, if there is no incident of death in the UMCOC membership community, there will be no disbursement of funds from UMCOC, which means, there will be no Reimbursement Share payment required from the members to replenish the funds.
Q. What is Reimbursement Share and how does it work?
A. UMCOC will provide financial support (when and if required) to registered members from the funds collected as membership fee. Then the disbursed amount is distributed equally among all applicants, which is recollected as Reimbursement Share and drawn from the bank account of every member as per a pre-authorized payment plan agreement, which is mandatory, to replenish the funds for future.
Q. How will the re-imbursement share will be calculated?

A. For example: If a total amount of CAD8,000 is disbursed for one death and equally distributed among 800 applicants, the reimbursement share will be CAD10 for each principal applicant, and will be calculated as follows:

1. Every principal applicant (with or without spouse and dependent child(ren) up to 25 years of age), will pay one reimbursement share on behalf of their family (example CAD10).

2. Dependent family members above 25 years of age, and elderly parent(s) living at the same address as the applicant, will pay half a reimbursement share for each member (example CAD5 x number of member(s)).

3. Reimbursement share will be between CAD0 – CAD50 depending on the number of members. As soon as the number of members will increase, the reimbursement share of each applicant will decrease.

Q. Can I add my dependent(s) above 25 years age and parent(s) living at same address?
A. YES, you may add all dependent(s) above 25 years of age, unmarried, married, separated children, parent(s) and in-laws, living at same applicant address and will pay one-time membership fee:

Membership fee for Dependent(s) above 25 years age: CAD50 each

Q. What do I do if the principal applicant has changes in the family (i.e., a member gets married or someone has a newborn)?
A. The principal applicant must add newly married and/or born family member if living at same address and any member moved to a different address, need to fill out a separate application form within one month. Fee already paid will be adjusted accordingly.
Q. What should the applicant do if a member dies at home?
A. Dial 911 for emergency assistance (ambulance, fire department, or police) and a Coroner (Investigation Officer) will come to your home and will sign a death certificate or will notify you if an autopsy is required. In that case they will arrange to take the dead body to hospital for autopsy. During this time, call UMCOC and Muslim funeral organization in your area to arrange the services.
Q. When are the benefits of a registered member be activated?
A. The applicant and registered members benefits will be activated after 30 days from the date of application is approved.

Q. If any member is deceased before the completion of the activation period, what happens?
A. Unfortunately, UMCOC will not provide any financial support before activation period is completed, according to UMCOC policy.
Q. Do I need to pay my share of reimbursement during my membership activation period?
A. No
Q. Why do I need to provide UMCOC an emergency contact number?
A. In case of a death when no beneficiary is alive, UMCOC may need to contact someone close to the deceased to get information and provide financial support for funeral and other applicable support.
Q. Is there any time limit to claim for funeral expenses?
A. Yes – to claim the funeral expenses time limit is 6 months from the date of death.
Q. Can married child(ren) be added to the application form living at same applicant address?
A. Yes – will pay CAD50 for membership fee and half re-imbursement share for each, when and if needed.
Q. Does a member need to write a WILL?
A. According to Canadian law, a deceased’s property does not transfer automatically to beneficiaries. In order, to legally transfer the property or funds in the bank, a Will is required. A member can write an Islamic Will that is legally compliant with the help of a lawyer, so that his or her family is given full access to assets after death.
Q. What if a member dies in another city, province of Canada?
A. UMCOC will still pay funeral related expenses up to CAD8,000 directly to services providers against the invoices.
Q. What if a member moves to another city, province of Canada before or after a deceased family member?
A. Member must inform UMCOC of change of address in Canada within one month.

Q. What if a member stipulates special instruction in the Will, specific place, country, or different procedures of burial?
A. UMCOC is not responsible for any special instruction in the Will against the policies.
Q. If a member does not pay his reimbursement share or any dues, what happens?
A. UMCOC will send payment reminders and if the principal applicant fails to comply for 3 consecutive months, then UMCOC has the right to revoke the membership and the member will no longer be eligible to receive any financial benefits, until all dues are paid.
Q. If the reimbursement share is not paid due to not sufficient funds (NSF) in the account, what happens.
A. UMCOC will notify the member that a charge of CAD25 as NSF fee will be charged to his or her account to cover the bank NSF charges. If the member refuses to pay the NSF fee, then UMCOC has the right to revoke the membership and member will no longer be eligible to receive any financial benefits, until all dues are paid.
